The opening night was a huge success, even through my nerves! The speech went really well, and so many people came up to me at the end congratulating me on it! It is such an honour to be part of this show!
Below is the speech I made in Spanish, with the english translation.

Buenas tardes. Soy Lisa Gingles, una de las afortunadas artistas representadas en esta exposición “40/40/40”, que recoge la colección de 40 artistas irlandeses, menores de 40 años, en celebración de 40 años de Irlanda en el Unión Europea que perteneciente a la Oficina de obras Publicas de Irlanda.Cuando la Embajada de Irlanda me pidió que hiciera un pequeño discurso para esta inauguración, me quedé un poco en shock!
No estoy acostumbrada en absoluto!
Luego, a medida que pasaban los días, me sentía menos nerviosa, y ahora mismo lo único que siento es un gran honor por tener la oportunidad de estar aquí, presentándome ante ustedes.
Nací en Larne, una pequeña ciudad en el norte de Irlanda, y viví en Ballygally, un pueblecito costero, hasta que tenía 8 años.
Por circunstancias familiares, hemos vivido en muchos países.
Hace 15 años, después de terminar mis estudios de Bellas Artes en la Universidad de Ulster, en Belfast, mi cultura nómada me llevó a seguir buscando lugares, culturas e idiomas que aún no había conocido.
Pero esta vez sola, sin mi familia, siguiendo mis propios instintos, que me empujaban a buscar experiencias inspiradoras para mi trabajo artístico!
Viajé por España hasta llegar a Valencia, donde he establecido mis segundas raíces.
Soy hija del pintor y escultor irlandés Graham Gingles. Las relaciones con el arte y los circuitos artísticos forman parte de mi vida desde siempre. Mi obra se ha expuesto en galerías de Belfast, Londres, Valencia y por fin en Dublín, donde se produjo un acto muy importante para mí al tener la oportunidad de exponer junto a mi padre.
Fue en esta expo donde la Oficina de obras Publicas adquirió la pieza que se exhibe hoy aquí, en el Palacio Conde Duque de Madrid.
Curiosamente, hace 20 años, en 1993 (mil novecientos noventa y tres), la Oficina de obras Publicas también adquirióuna obra de mi padre, que se mostró, junto a otros artistasirlandeses, en la sede central europea de Bruselas, la exposición se llamaba “La innovación de la tradición”.
Siento un poco como que la historiase repite!
La Oficina de obras Publicas fue una gran plataforma parami padre y los otros artistas irlandeseshace 20 años, y hoy me siento orgullosa de ser parte de la misma historia, 20 años después.
Por otra parte, y volviendo a esta inauguración, para mí es especialmente importante que la primera exposición sea en España, mi segunda casa, donde las semillas de mi formación, de mi educación, de mis inquietudes,
empezaron a dar los frutos de mi trabajo artístico.
Vivir en España me ha dado la confianza para desarrollar tanto mi obra como mi propia vida.
Esta iniciativa del Departamento de Asuntos Exteriores y Comercio, y de la Oficina de obras Publicas de Irlanda, es una gran oportunidad para los artistas Irlandeses, pues hace posible el conocimiento y la promoción de la escena artística y cultural contemporánea de Irlanda en Europa.
Puedo decir, en nombre de todos mis compañeros artistas, que estamos encantados de que nos haya dado esta oportunidad para mostrar nuestro talento y compartir nuestra obra con otros ciudadanos europeos.
TRANSLATION IN ENGLISH
Good evening. I’m Lisa Gingles, one of the lucky artists represented
in this exhibition “40/40/40”, which includes the collection of 40 Irish artists, under 40 years of age, in celebration of 40 years of Ireland in the European Union with the Office of Public Works in Ireland.
When the Irish Embassy asked me to make this little speech
for this inauguration, I was a bit in shock! I’m not used to this at all!
Then, as the days passed, I felt less nervous, and right now all I feel is a great honor to have the opportunity
to be here, introducing myself to you.
I was born in Larne, a small town in Northern Ireland, and lived in Ballygally, a coastal village, until I was 8 years old.
For family circumstances, have lived in many countries.
15 years ago, after finishing my studies in Fine Arts at the University of Ulster in Belfast, my nomadic culture led me to keep looking for places, cultures and languages that had not yet discovered.
But this time alone, without my family, following my own instincts, which would push me to look for inspiring experiences for me and my artwork!
I traveled down to Valencia Spain, where I have made my second roots.
I am the daughter of the Irish painter and sculptor Graham Gingles. Relations with art and the artistic circles have always been part of my life.
My work has been exhibited in galleries in Belfast, London, Valencia and finally in Dublin, where there was a very important event for me, the opportunity to exhibit alongside my father.
It was at this expo where the Office of Public Works acquired the piece that is now on display here at the Palacio Conde Duque in Madrid.
Funny enough, 20 years ago, in 1993 (1993), the Office of Public Works also acquired a piece of work from my father, who was, along with other Irish artists, held in the European headquarters in Brussels, the exhibition was titled “Innovation of the tradition.”
It feels a bit like history repeating itself!
The Office of Public Works was a great platform for my father and other Irish artists 20 years ago, and today I am proud be part of the same story, 20 years later.
Getting back to this opening this evening, it is especially important for me that the first exhibition of 40/40/40 is in Spain, my second home, where the seeds of my training, my education, my concerns, began to bear the fruits of my artwork.
Living in Spain has given me the confidence to develop both my work and my personal life.
This initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Office of Public Works in Ireland, is a great opportunity for Irish artists, by enabling knowledge and promotion of contemporary arts and culture scene in Ireland in Europe.
I can say on behalf of all my fellow artists that we are delighted to have been given this opportunity to showcase our talent and share our work with other European citizens.
